#What ChatGPT is not good for (yet)

To be honest: ChatGPT is genuinely bad at some things, and pretending otherwise gets you in trouble.

• Reading case law. It hallucinates citations regularly. Never rely on a ChatGPT-cited court case without pulling the actual opinion from CourtListener, Google Scholar, or the state court website. Lawyers have been sanctioned for filing briefs with hallucinated cites.
• Medical diagnosis. It can help you understand a diagnosis you already have, or prepare questions for a doctor's visit, but it is not a doctor. Do not skip the visit.
• Filling out actual forms. It can walk you through what a form asks for, but the file-and-submit part still requires you or your preparer.
• Current-year IRS rules on niche credits. The Retirement Savings Contributions Credit, the Solar Investment Tax Credit, and the EV credit have all changed multiple times in the last three years. ChatGPT's training cutoff might not have the latest rule. Cross-check IRS.gov before filing.

ChatGPT is not going to replace your accountant, lawyer, or doctor. What it will do is close the gap between the paid professional (whom you may not be able to afford) and the empty document you are staring at right now.
