Most image prompt guides make you scroll through 3,000 words of theory before you get anything you can actually paste into Midjourney. This isn't that. Below are 40 image prompts — organized by use case, tested across current models in August 2026, with a short note on what makes each one work.
The rule I keep going back to: a good image prompt describes the shot as if you were briefing a photographer or illustrator, not a computer. Subject, lighting, camera or medium, mood. In that order. Every prompt below follows that structure. Copy them straight, or use them as templates and swap the subject.

How to Use These Prompts
Each prompt below is written in a model-agnostic style — meaning it works in Midjourney v6, FLUX.1, DALL-E 3, and Stable Diffusion XL without modification. If you want the absolute best output, add the parameters your specific model prefers:
- Midjourney v6: append
--ar 16:9 --v 6 --style rawfor photorealism, drop--style rawfor painterly work. - FLUX.1 Pro: paste the prompt straight in — FLUX handles verbose prompts better than any other current model.
- DALL-E 3: works in ChatGPT — DALL-E rewrites your prompt internally, so keep it descriptive rather than technical.
- Stable Diffusion XL: add a negative prompt like
ugly, blurry, low quality, distorted, watermarkfor cleaner outputs.

Portrait & Headshot Prompts
Portraits are the most searched category of AI image prompts, and also the hardest to get right. The keys: lighting language ("Rembrandt lighting", "soft window light"), lens specifics ("shot on 85mm f/1.4"), and mood.
Professional corporate headshot of a woman in her 30s wearing a charcoal grey blazer, soft window light from the left, sharp focus on eyes, subtle smile, neutral grey background, shot on 85mm lens f/1.8, high detail skin texture
Environmental portrait of a chef in a professional kitchen, wearing a white chef's coat, warm ambient light from overhead pendant lamps, hands actively plating a dish, shallow depth of field, shot on 50mm f/2.0, cinematic mood
Studio portrait of a young man with textured curly hair, dramatic single-source lighting from the right creating shadow on the left half of the face, wearing a black turtleneck, black seamless background, editorial fashion photography style, medium format camera aesthetic
Candid portrait of an elderly woman laughing, warm natural light through a linen curtain, wrinkles and skin texture fully visible and celebrated, wearing a knitted cardigan, kitchen setting with soft-focused kettle in background, shot on 35mm f/2.8, warm color grade
Modern LinkedIn headshot of a woman with shoulder-length black hair, soft even lighting on the face, wearing a navy blazer over a white top, seamless off-white background, gentle warmth in skin tones, direct eye contact, professional but approachable
Portrait of an Indian bride in traditional red silk saree with gold embroidery, ornate gold jewelry, henna-decorated hands, natural light streaming through a window with hanging jasmine flowers, cinematic composition, shot on 50mm f/1.4, warm golden hour tones
Cyberpunk portrait of a woman with short pink hair, neon reflections on skin, wearing a black leather jacket, urban night setting with blurred neon signs behind, shot on 35mm f/1.4, moody blue and magenta color grade, cinematic
Athletic action portrait of a runner mid-stride on a track at dawn, side lighting from low sun, sweat visible on skin, wearing black running gear, motion blur on background, shot on 200mm telephoto f/2.8, dynamic composition
Product Photography Prompts
Product prompts want simplicity and lighting. Overcomplicated backgrounds are the #1 mistake — a clean surface plus one directional light source produces cleaner outputs than any elaborate scene.
Amber glass perfume bottle on a smooth white marble surface, single soft light from the upper left creating gentle reflection, minimal shadow, warm brass cap catching a highlight, luxury commercial photography style, shot on 100mm macro f/8, sharp focus on the label area
Fresh strawberry smoothie in a tall clear glass on a light wood surface, condensation drops visible on glass, fresh strawberry and mint garnish, morning window light from the right, minimal props, food photography editorial style, shot on 50mm f/2.8
Matte black wireless earbuds in an open charging case on a slate grey concrete surface, top-down flat lay composition, single overhead light, minimal shadow, tech product commercial photography, sharp focus edge to edge, subtle brand-suggesting negative space to the right for text overlay
Handmade leather journal with brass buckle on a rustic wooden desk, natural window light from the left, fountain pen and coffee cup as secondary props, warm color grade, artisan brand aesthetic, shot on 35mm f/2.8, editorial magazine style
Skincare serum in a frosted glass dropper bottle floating on a pastel pink background with soft shadow beneath, three-quarter angle, minimalist commercial photography, clean and calming atmosphere, subtle water droplets suggesting freshness, shot on 85mm f/5.6
Roasted coffee beans spilling from a burlap sack onto a dark wooden table, top-down flat lay, warm directional light from the left, coffee grinder and empty ceramic mug as props, rich brown and cream color palette, artisan coffee shop aesthetic
Landscape & Nature Prompts
Landscapes reward specificity about time of day and weather. "Sunrise" produces something different than "the moment just before sunrise when the sky is still deep blue at the top" — the second version gives the model something concrete to render.
Aerial drone shot of a winding mountain road cutting through autumn forests in the Rocky Mountains, golden hour light, mist in the valleys below, red and orange foliage, wide angle composition, cinematic color grade, shot from 400 feet altitude
Icelandic waterfall cascading over black volcanic rocks, overcast diffused daylight, long exposure showing silky water motion, moss-covered surrounding cliffs, wide angle 24mm lens, shot at f/11 for maximum depth of field, moody nordic color palette
Wheat field in Provence at sunset, golden hour side lighting, single farmhouse in the distance, cypress trees dotting the landscape, deep long shadows, warm honey color grade, wide angle composition, painterly quality, medium format photography
Bioluminescent beach at night in the Maldives, glowing blue plankton reflecting starlight in gentle waves, dark palm silhouettes framing the shot, milky way visible in the sky above, long exposure, ultra wide angle, magical realism photography
Foggy morning in a Japanese bamboo forest, single ray of light piercing through the canopy, endless rows of tall green bamboo stalks, wet moss-covered stone path in foreground, mystical atmosphere, shot on 35mm f/2.0
Sahara desert dunes at dawn, first light hitting the crest of a large dune creating a sharp shadow line, deep orange and violet color palette, minimalist composition, no other subjects, medium format aesthetic, wide angle
Anime & Illustration Prompts
Anime and illustration prompts want a specific style reference. "Anime" is too vague — "Studio Ghibli style", "90s cel anime style", "modern webcomic style" all produce dramatically different outputs.
Studio Ghibli style illustration of a girl in a yellow raincoat holding a red umbrella, walking through a foggy Tokyo neighborhood at dusk, warm lantern lights glowing in shop windows, painterly hand-drawn quality, soft pastel color palette, cinematic composition
90s cel anime style close-up of a swordsman with silver hair and a scarred left eye, moonlight illuminating the face from the left, dramatic shadow across the right half, cherry blossom petals blowing across the frame, dark blue color palette, retro anime aesthetic
Modern webtoon style illustration of two students studying together at a cafe window, one leaning over the other's shoulder pointing at a book, cozy autumn colors, warm afternoon light, soft rounded art style, gentle expressions, slice-of-life romance aesthetic
Cyberpunk anime style character portrait of a female hacker with cropped neon-green hair, wearing a translucent visor with reflected data streams, urban night setting with blurred neon behind, sharp detailed illustration, dark base tones with neon accents
Chibi style illustration of a small dragon curled up asleep on a stack of ancient books in a candlelit library, warm amber lighting, exaggerated cute proportions, soft rounded shapes, whimsical fantasy aesthetic, painterly rendering
Cinematic & Film-Still Prompts
The cinematic look is about three things: anamorphic lens flare, teal-and-orange color grade, and shallow depth of field. Naming a director or era ("Wes Anderson", "80s neo-noir") does more work than any technical parameter.
Cinematic film still in the style of Wes Anderson, a scientist in a lab coat standing perfectly centered in a symmetrical retro-futuristic laboratory, pastel color palette, dead-center composition, wide shot on 40mm lens, deadpan expression, quirky detailed set design
80s neo-noir film still, a detective in a rain-soaked trench coat standing under a flickering streetlamp at night, wet reflective pavement, neon signs blurred in the deep background, anamorphic lens flare, teal and magenta color grade, moody cinematic composition
Christopher Nolan style cinematic shot, a lone figure standing on a rooftop of a brutalist concrete building at dawn, overcast sky, city skyline in the far distance shrouded in mist, cold blue color grade, wide angle 24mm anamorphic lens, epic scale
Cinematic film still in the style of Denis Villeneuve, a lone astronaut in a rust-red helmet standing on the surface of an alien planet with two setting suns, wind-blown red sand, epic scale, wide anamorphic composition, muted desaturated color palette
Cinematic film still, medium shot of two spies meeting on a Vienna café terrace at night, warm ambient lighting from the interior spilling out, dressed in dark overcoats, empty espresso cups on the table between them, John le Carré adaptation aesthetic, shot on 50mm f/1.4
Social Media Content Prompts
Instagram, YouTube thumbnails, and TikTok covers each have their own visual language. What they share: strong contrast, one clear subject, and space for text overlay (if you're going to add it).
Instagram flat-lay of a laptop with a coffee cup and open notebook on a linen surface, warm morning light from the top left, minimal props, cream and terracotta color palette, aspirational work-from-home aesthetic, shot from directly overhead, negative space in the lower right for text overlay
YouTube thumbnail composition, a shocked-face young man on the left half of the frame with wide eyes and open mouth, a stack of gold coins overflowing on the right, bright saturated colors, thick black outline around the person, high-contrast lighting, viral clickbait aesthetic, 16:9 ratio
Reel cover for a fitness creator, athletic woman doing a plank against a bright yellow gym wall, dramatic side lighting, sweat visible on skin, high-contrast bold composition, 9:16 vertical ratio, negative space at the top for the video title overlay
Pinterest-optimized vertical composition of a rustic farmhouse kitchen with fresh herbs hanging from wooden beams, warm morning light through white curtains, terracotta pots on a wooden shelf, cozy aesthetic, muted natural color palette, 2:3 aspect ratio, editorial magazine quality
TikTok cover shot of a young woman applying makeup in a ring-light-lit vanity mirror, cropped composition showing only the reflection, aesthetic beauty content style, soft pink lighting, glossy modern aesthetic, 9:16 vertical composition
Logo & Brand Element Prompts
Logo prompts are the shortest of any category. Simple is better. Model tends to overcomplicate logos when you overwrite the prompt.
Minimalist logo design of a mountain formed by two overlapping triangles in gradient blue tones, on a clean white background, flat vector style, geometric, professional tech brand aesthetic, negative space use
Elegant serif logotype for a wine brand, single word "Cellar", gold foil finish on a deep burgundy background, small decorative flourish above the letters, luxurious hospitality brand aesthetic
Modern flat-vector logo of a stylized fox head, formed by overlapping orange and cream triangles, minimal geometric shapes, sharp clean edges, ideal for a small tech startup, vector art style
Botanical brand mark, single ink-drawing of a leafy branch in dark forest green on a cream background, delicate line work, apothecary or artisan cosmetics brand aesthetic, minimalist
Retro 70s style logotype for a coffee brand, the word "Roasted" in curved script inside a rounded orange rectangle border, warm cream typography, mid-century modern aesthetic, vintage design
The 3 Rules That Make Every Prompt Better
Rule 1: Name the medium first, not last. "Cinematic film still of..." tells the model what render mode to use before it decides what to render. "A cat in a garden, cinematic style" gets 60% of the way there. Front-loading the medium ("Editorial magazine photograph of...", "Studio Ghibli style illustration of...", "80s cel anime style shot of...") produces dramatically more consistent results.
Rule 2: Specify lighting like a photographer. "Good lighting" means nothing. "Rembrandt lighting from the upper left, soft shadow on the right cheek, catchlight in the eyes" gives the model something to work with. If you don't know lighting terminology, use time of day ("golden hour", "blue hour", "high noon") — the model has enough training data to render each accurately.
Rule 3: One subject, one mood, one style. Prompts with three subjects and four moods get an averaged result that satisfies none of them. If you want a portrait AND a landscape, run two prompts, not one. Similarly, mixing "photorealistic" with "painterly" or "cinematic" with "cartoon" produces a muddled output. Pick a lane per prompt.
These three rules alone will pull about 70% of the quality gap between a mediocre and a great prompt. For 30 more rules and a full prompt-writing framework, see our Midjourney prompts ultimate guide and the free AI prompts library.
FAQ
Do these prompts work in every AI image model?
Yes, with minor tweaks. Every prompt above is written in model-agnostic natural language and produces workable results in Midjourney v6, FLUX.1, DALL-E 3, and Stable Diffusion XL. The main variation is stylistic: Midjourney tends to over-stylize, FLUX is the most literal, DALL-E rewrites your prompt internally, and Stable Diffusion needs a negative prompt for clean outputs. Test the same prompt in two models to see the difference.
What's the best AI image model in 2026 for realistic photos?
FLUX.1 Pro currently produces the most photorealistic outputs, particularly for portraits and product shots. Midjourney v6 with --style raw is a close second and often preferred for artistic direction. DALL-E 3 is best when you need text or logos rendered inside the image. For a detailed breakdown, see our post on the best AI prompts for realistic photos.
Can I use these prompts commercially?
The prompts themselves are free to use in any project. The output images you generate belong to you under most current AI model terms of service (Midjourney's basic and pro plans, FLUX Pro, DALL-E via ChatGPT Plus). Check your specific model's terms — Midjourney's free tier does NOT grant commercial rights on generated images.
Why do I get different results with the same prompt each time?
AI image models are seeded randomly by default. Same prompt + different seed = different image. To reproduce a specific look, either use the seed parameter (Midjourney: --seed 12345) or run the same prompt 4-8 times and pick the best output. This isn't a bug — it's how creative sampling works.
Where can I find more prompts organized by category?
The PromptSpace image prompts gallery has 5,000+ prompts filterable by style, category, and model. If you're looking for something specific like realistic photos, headshots, or logo design, we have dedicated collections at realistic photo prompts, free AI prompts, and category-specific pages on the main site.
Do longer prompts always produce better images?
No — this is one of the most persistent myths. Beyond about 60 words, most models start ignoring or averaging portions of your prompt. What matters is specificity, not length. "A dog" is bad. "A golden retriever puppy running through a wildflower meadow, golden hour, shallow depth of field" is much better than "A cute adorable playful energetic beautiful golden retriever puppy running joyfully through a stunning gorgeous colorful vibrant wildflower meadow filled with...". Cut the fluff.
The Bottom Line
Good image prompts describe the shot like you're briefing a photographer or illustrator: subject, lighting, medium, mood. Every prompt above follows that structure and you can too — pick the closest template, swap the subject, and you have a working prompt in 30 seconds.
